Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week - Adopting Hybrid homeworking

Mental Health Awareness Week. CAM Logo.

It’s been a tough year. Not commercially - we're growing, even recruiting. Not for projects – our team has never been so engaged and we’re really delivering for our customers. But as we enter Mental Health Awareness week mid-global pandemic, there’s plenty to be reflecting upon and a lot to be grateful for.

When lockdown #1 hit, a quarter of our team were already remote workers. Adding in the other three quarters was relatively pain free. What we hadn’t anticipated was the significant shift in staff well-being. For many of our team, their work and home life responsibilities became more balanced. Zero commute has meant more quality time with the family. Quiet home offices have helped staff feel less stressed and boosted productivity. Staff with caring responsibilities have been able to restructure their day for the better – being available for school pickups and medical appointments.

Whilst we’ve been homeworking, we’ve noticed that our team have embraced the opportunity to connect with nature. By accident or by design: more children are being walked to nursery, coffee breaks taken in the sunshine and dogs have never been so well exercised. Engaging with nature is a vital part of maintaining good mental health and CAM as a business has felt the benefits of our teams’ improved well-being. So much so, we’re sticking with it – permanently adopting a hybrid homeworking model – that lets our team maintain their improved work and homelife balance and also empowers them to keep focussing on their mental health.
